About Us
Maps show you where everyone goes. We show you where Banaras actually lives.
Varanasi is one of the most mapped, photographed, and written-about cities in the world — and still one of the least understood by the people passing through it. Every guidebook points you to the same five ghats, the same aarti, the same rooftop cafe. What they miss is the city underneath: the tea stall that's been pouring the same blend for three generations, the lane a boatman's family has walked for a century, the temple no app will ever pin correctly.
That's the gap Platopy exists to close.
We're building a living, locally-sourced map of Varanasi — not curated by a travel desk sitting somewhere else, but by the people who actually live here: boatmen, priests, artisans, chai-sellers, students, and wanderers who know the city's back lanes better than any algorithm ever could. Every “gem” on Platopy comes from someone with real, ground-level knowledge of Varanasi, not a listicle.
Alongside the map, we built PY AI — a chat guide that answers the specific, practical questions travelers actually have (what should this rickshaw ride cost, what's this saree really worth, where do I go for an evening walk that isn't packed) — because the best local friend is the one you can ask anything.
We're not a tourist board, and we're not trying to be everywhere. We're focused on one city, done properly: Varanasi, as it's actually lived in.
Our Mission
Help travelers find the Varanasi that only locals know — and help the locals who hold that knowledge get seen and credited for it.
Find your place. Tell us your vibe. Discover the city that maps miss.
