Bindu Mahadev
Panchganga Ghat, Bangali Tola, Varanasi
The oldest Vishnu temple in Kashi, hidden in a nondescript house-like building above Panchganga Ghat. The original grand cross-shaped temple with four towers was demolished by Aurangzeb in 1669; the deity was hidden in the Ganga for three years before Shivaji rebuilt it. Tulsidas wrote poetry here. The four-handed Narayana deity carved from saligram stone still enchants devotees.
